Staruml CASE Tool

StarUML is a outdated, as it offers just UML 1, an no further development seems to happen.

Oh it is written in Delphi/Pascal, works still fine on Windows Vista.

Anyhow, StarUML safed my life in a project, due to its genius intuitive class diagram.

I used the class diagram for a functional description of the services of a service provider ( datacenter, webhoster, internet service provider, pizza service... ) - real life services, not an IT web service on a web server. The main objective was to visualize the depencencies beween the services, the relation "a main service consists of a bunch of other sub-services" and the attributes of each service.

Example: If a webhoster offers a "entry package", usually it consists of a webspace ( e.g. 500 MBytes), a domain registration, email server and more. So that can be visualized by classes, and the class "entry package" consists of some other sub-classes.

The genius user interface of StarUML offers a very large UML window, in opposite for example to eclipse-based tools.

Printing of the diagrams was tricky, but ok.

Especially the visualisation of class attributes was very comfortable, in comparison to other free tools.

So for that purpose, StarUML was perfect.
